Catheter Ablation - Pre-operative Instructions
- You will need a driver the day of your procedure.
- Take your normal medications the day of your procedure unless otherwise directed by your physician.
- Please wear loose fitting clothing because your leg will be wrapped in an ace wrap until the following morning.
- You may want to bring a personal CD or an I-Pod to listen to during your procedure. We have a CD player and an I-Pod docking station.
- We would like you to eat the day of your procedure due to the medications we are giving you. If you are scheduled in the morning please eat a light breakfast. You may have coffee or tea but only a small amount is recommended for your bladder comfort. If you are scheduled in the afternoon you may eat a normal breakfast and a light lunch.
- You will be pre-medicated at our office with oral medications which include Valium and Percocet. These will help you relax during the procedure.
- Once you are medicated, an RVC staff member will walk you down to the procedure room which is located on the 1st floor of the Women’s Health Center.
- Typically, the procedure takes about one hour. During this time your driver can wait in our office or in the Reichert Health Building lobby (RHB), if they have a cell phone. We will call them, if needed, or walk you out to them in the RHB lobby when the procedure is finished.
- During the procedure the physician will use a local anesthetic to numb your leg. Your leg may feel numb for several hours after the procedure but you should not have any difficulty walking.
- There is little recovery time after the procedure.
